The Inter-Island Ferry is more like a cruise ship than a commuter vessel. It’s huge, with 10 decks, food court, café, bar, and private cabins. For families with babies, there are private nursery rooms, and for the kids there was live entertainment by a magician and two feature movies during the three-hour journey. The vehicle bays can easily accommodate buses and semis (there was a double tractor trailer filled with sheep on our vessel). For most of the time, the ship is near scenic coastline. We took the early boat and enjoyed a nice breakfast, cappuccinos, and free wifi. The weather was perfect. This is traveling in style!
My feet are still sore from all that “museuming” yesterday, so I’m grateful to be riding a boat this morning. Our friends Rana and Djanisa are also aboard, so we enjoyed watching the departure from Wellington together. Maybe we’ll run into them again on the South Island.
