Today we bid Matamanoa farewell and traveled to the “Mainland” to be close to the airport for an early morning departure. For convenience, our travel agent booked us into one of the major hotels for one night. It was high-end, luxurious, and utterly cold and bland. I’m pretty sure I stayed in that exact room at a business conference in Las Vegas. There was almost no way to tell whether you were in Miami, or Cancun, or any other beach resort. Karel was hesitant to speak out too much, but when he started trying to get a hint of my opinion of the place, I blurted out, “I hate this place,” much to his relief. One more thing we have in common. Although a hotel like that is the gold standard for many people, it just isn’t our style. Fiji is awesome. The corporate hotel scene is not. We’re wondering if we can change some of our future reservations to bed and breakfast inns and smaller hotels.
