Every Saturday afternoon we’re packing our Passat with musical gear and drive to Folsom Street Coffee (at Folsom and Canyon) where we host an acoustic jam from 2-5. We’ve been doing this since we moved to Boulder; we really wanted to have a weekly Saturday jam because we have very fond memories of a similar jam that we attended in Minneapolis.
Usually about ten musicians show up – with varying skills, but everybody seems to have a great time. Not only the players, but also the audience seems to be enjoying themselves. Denise’s mom (Sheri) showed up with a friend, there were two girls hanging out on the table next to the stage that were singing along (and really liked the “Yoshimi battles the Pink Robots” song), and there was this girl hanging out in the corner – a big smile on her face and busy writing on her notepad.
At some point she introduced herself; her name was Cris Cardenas, she just moved to Boulder and thought that our jam was so cool. She then showed us her work – she had not been writing, but sketching our little troupe of musicians. She thanked us for organizing the jam and giving her a great time.
And that is what we enjoy most about our jam – seeing smiling faces and knowing that music makes folks happy.
